5 years Post Undegrad

It's that time of year again: graduation season. It's hard to believe it's been five years since I graduated from college. In that time, I've experienced a roller coaster of events, from the happiest moments of completing the Disney College Program, interning for Sen. Charles E. Schumer, and taking Disney vacations to the lowest moments of the global pandemic, working in retail during that time, losing my nana to COVID-19, and battling Hodgkin's lymphoma. But through it all, I've emerged stronger than ever.

As a 2018 graduate, here's some advice I'd like to offer:

  1. It's okay not to have a job right out of college. There's no need to rush into your career.

  2. Have a portfolio website and keep your LinkedIn profile up to date so that hiring managers can see your job journey.

  3. Take care of your mental health. It's okay to not be okay.

  4. Consider opening an investment account.

  5. Remember that "no" often means "not right now." You only need one "yes," and it can change your life forever.

  6. Embrace your beauty, regardless of your size. Not everyone is a size 0 or 2.

  7. Find a hobby that will benefit you in pursuing your dream job.

  8. Advocate for yourself.

  9. Only use your credit card for emergency purchases. Don't spend money you don't have.

  10. Be kind to others. Our country is divided, and regardless of what side of the aisle you're on, it's important to respect others' views.

  11. Your first job out of college is not necessarily your forever job.

  12. Stay in touch with your college friends; they can be a great support system.

I hope this advice serves you well as you embark on this new chapter in your life. Congratulations, graduates!
