Five Women Running For President in 2020
Its been three years since the 2016 presidential election. There is a change in the political system. More women are running for public office. From this 2018 record voter turnout, Over 100 women were elected into the United States Congress. Many of these women are from diverse backgrounds such as Native American, Somalian, Muslim, Latina, and LGBTQ communities.
2016: Three Women ran for president of the United States.
Hilary Clinton - Democratic Party
Jill Stein - Green Party
Carly Fiorina- Republican Party
Due to the 2016 presidential election results, there was an increase in women running for state legislature in 2017.
2017: 77 women ran for NJ State Legislature.
36 Women were elected into the NJ State Legislature.
52 women ran for Virginia State Delegate.
28 women were elected as Virginia State Delegates.
Then in 2018 more women ran for local or state positions.
2018: 127 Women in the United States Congress.
102 women were elected into the U.S House of Representatives.
Five women newly elected into the U.S Senate.
26 women in the U.S Senate.

Jacky Rosen- Senator of Nevada
Martha McSally - Senator of Arizona filling a vacant seat.
Cythina Hyde-Smith - Senator of Mississippi.
Marsha Blackburn - Senator of Tennessee.
